It’s been a wild week in Hip-Hop. Quavo released his debut solo album, Quavo Huncho. Ella Mai release her long awaited, self titled album and 6lack dropped the video for his new single with J. Cole. Among the many headlines in the fast moving world of Hip-Hop were the cyphers at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards. While the cyphers at the 2018 BET Hip Hop Awards are usually a chance to admire some of the best lyricists in the game, things were a little bit different this year.
Shortly after the BET Hip Hop Awards were filmed down in Miami, a back and forth on social media erupted. XXXTentacion’s former DJ and close friend, DJ Scheme, took to Twitter to let people know of his displeasure with this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards cyphers. Specifically, he had an issue with a comment made by Chicago rapper, Vic Mensa. Scheme alleged that Vic Mensa dissed the late rapper with his mother in the audience. Later, the Chicago rapper attempted to clear up the matter by declaring that he was taking a stance against rappers who engage in domestic abuse.
Unfortunately, Vic Mensa’s comments didn’t do much to clear up the matter. Many felt that the rapper was picking on a deceased man who could not defend himself. Moreover, some felt it was hypocritical for the rapper to call out others for engaging in domestic abuse when he admitted to choking his girlfriend in a song back in 2016.
For some time now, the matter has been much of a he said, she said situation. Tonight, we finally received the full verse from the cypher. Watch the entire cypher above and let us know what you think. Was Vic Mensa in the wrong?
