Currently home to the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, Washington Capitals, and Georgetown Hoyas, the Verizon Center has been the main attractive for fans of indoor DC sports. In 2018, that will all change when Verizon’s deal with Monumental Sports And Entertainment comes to a close.
As the salary cap is expected to see a huge increase, this contract could be higher than any than any other stadium sponsorship contract in the NBA. Washington is a fairly large market, and could be a huge opportunity to a brand to get their name out there.
Something all DC Sports fans can agree on is the nickname for the Verizon Center is one of the coolest, and will be missed even more than the real name itself. “The Phone Booth” will have to find a new nickname unless a company such as Apple, Samsung, or another phone producing company purchases the contract. Whoever buys the stadium, please make the name something that sounds good.
