One of the most highly anticipated fights of the year is shaping up in New York. On December 11, former champions Vasyl Lomachenko will square off against Richard Commey at Madison Square Garden. With Lomachenko seemingly on the verge of landing another big fight against Shakur Stevenson, Gervonta Davis or even Teofimo Lopez, there’s a lot at stake for the veteran fighter. However, he isn’t the only one who has a lot on the line this December.
Three major boxing prospects have been added to the undercard of Lomachenko-Commey and they all have a lot on the line. Heavyweight contender Jared Anderson will return to the ring in pursuit of this year’s “Prospect of the Year” title after scoring a knockout on the Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder III undercard. Fellow “Prospect of the Year” candidate Xander Zayas will also take part in the Top Rank event after scoring a win on the Shakur Stevenson-Jamel Herring undercard in Atlanta. Rounding out this undercard announcement, Muhammad Ali’s grandson, Nico Ali Walsh, will return for his third fight after joining Zayas on the Stevenson-Herring undercard.
December 11 will likely mark the end of the boxing calendar. Lomachenko-Commey will take place in New York, Katie Taylor will fight in England and Nonito Donaire will battle Reymart Gaballo in California. Not to mention, Claressa Shields will likely return on December 11.
Top Rank announced Vasiliy Lomachenko vs. Richard Commey for an ESPN-televised card at Madison Square Garden on December 11. Jared Anderson vs. Oleksandr Teslenko is the co-feature. Xander Zayas and Nico Ali Walsh also confirmed for the card, with no opponents announced yet. pic.twitter.com/DxIm1aRKej
