The NBA Summer League is taking place both in Orlando and Utah, with the League in Las Vegas beginning soon. The Utah Jazz are already getting their Rookies’ feet wet. Except for Trey Lyles.
The reason for this is because Lyles wants a bigger contract. 120% of the Rookie standard which is legal teams rarely agree to it. Lyles hasn’t practiced with his new teammates, but Jazz GM Dennis Lyndsey assures fans that the situation will clear up.
“We’ll have some news for our fans here real short, so no worries,” Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey told 1280 The Zone on Monday evening.
Lindsey has previously said that, while there were some ongoing negotiations, the primary the hold-up in getting the team’s first-round draft pick signed lay with Jazz management, who wanted to keep the player temporarily out of contract in order to maintain a small amount of extra cap space.
“Trey and his representation worked with us very well,” Lindsey said. “Like we said, it was more than likely we weren’t going to use that room, but when you need the room and you’ve used it it always comes up, guys. So we needed to get through the first part of free agency to have the conversations that we needed to have and clarity about what we’re doing. And we have very good clarity as of today.”
The Jazz have done very well in nurturing the talent they have. I’ve been saying for years give them a few years and they’ll be legit. This it has been ‘a few’ years now and you can’t look at that squads potential and not say ‘Playoff team’. As for Trey Lyles, it’s going to be a few days until something happens so keep it locked here and we’ll have an update as soon as the GM of the Utah Jazz does.
Update as of 07/07/2015
Just as the GM assures fans that he will be taken care of. Just hours later, David Aldridge drops the figures on Trey Lyles’ deal.

Well at least he knows that they value him. a 4-Year deal, that’s rare for a Rookie.
