Usher shares an image from the studio on social media and to everyone’s surprise, the whiteboard reads “Confessions 2”.
The R&B superstar captioned the photo “Dis what yall want…” sitting in front of So SoDef Insignia. The possibility of a sequel album to Confessions, the 2004 classic has many buzzing about the timeless work.
Confessions exists as a time capsule to the early 2000s. Upon release, the initial album sold over 1 million copies and earned the artist a Grammy award for Best Contemporary R&B album. Now certified diamond by the RIAA, Confessions remains one of the best selling albums of all time.
Producer Jermaine Dupri’s critical role with Confessions could also be reprised. Originally, the So So Def leader served as producer and allegedly his own story gave the lyrics life. Usher’s last project surprised fans, produced by Zaytoven released on the artist’s 40th birthday.
Usher tells Fader, the album titled A, a homage to Atlanta, came about through the excitement of making music. “Man, this feels so good and the energy of what this is feels really in the moment. I don’t want to wait another month or a year from now to release these songs. I really want to be in the moment.”
