Operation Warp Speed has indicated that they plan to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine to 100 million people by the end of February. Operation Warp Speed’s Moncef Slaoui believes that the 100 million figure represents the number of frontline workers, elderly citizens and Americans with underlying conditions that would need the vaccine sooner rather than later.
This news comes just hours after a report suggested that they would be able to distribute the first surge of Pfizer vaccines by December 15 if approved by the FDA. Moderna would hope to follow right behind Pfizer and distribute vaccinations before Christmas. Operation Warp Speed CEO Gustave Perna said the government hopes to ship 6.4 million Pfizer vaccine doses within 24 hours. If successful, government officials would hope to send 12.5 million doses of the Moderna vaccine within the same period.
“We’ve got to make sure that people get vaccinated,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said.
“If they get vaccinated through April, May and June, and we really do a full-court press to get everybody vaccinated, you can get back to normal or at least approaching close to normal as you get into the late summer and early fall.”
