The University of North Carolina’s Board of Trustees is in the process of approving a new contract for head mens basketball coach Roy Williams InsideCarolina.com reports.
The news comes 24 hours after the school posted the Notice of Allegations it received from the NCAA. The school was charged with lack of institutional control along with four Level 1 violations. The time frame cited runs from the fall of 2002 through the summer of 2011.
UNC chancellor Carol L. Folt and athletics director Bubba Cunningham issued a statement about the allegations saying:
“We take the allegations the NCAA made about past conduct very seriously. This is the next step in a defined process, and we are a long way from reaching a conclusion. We will respond to the notice using facts and evidence to present a full picture of our case. Although we may identify some instances in the NCAA’s notice where we agree and others where we do not, we are committed to continue pursuing a fair and just outcome for Carolina.”
In the 59 page report, Williams was only mentioned once and was cleared of any wrong doing. In fact, the women’s basketball team was main subject of the report and not the men’s team.
The school is clearly showing their support for the coach who has won them two national titles in 12 seasons with this extension following the report.
Williams last contract paid him a yearly base salary of $333,938 and supplemental incomes between $1.35 million and $1.65 million annually. Expect him to get a nice raise on this new deal.
