From Seattle to the world, UMI explores themes of ego, identity, healing, and compassion with her latest album, people stories. Blending pop, R&B, soul, and much more, UMI crafts a soundscape unique to her voice and vents freely about her life and the world around her as her therapist routinely chimes in with guidance, analysis, and words of advice.
“I wanted to be the storyteller, the vessel to express everyone’s stories,” UMI said in a press release. “We all live very similar lives, same colors, slightly different hues. I find that to be very comforting. While writing this album, I found myself in every story I was expressing. I was reminded of how colorful the human experience is. For me, learning to accept even the darkest colors of life was deeply healing and possible through relating to others.”
To bring the album to life, UMI reached out to longtime collaborator 6LACK as the project’s lone feature and sought executive production from Veronica Vera. In the end, UMI compiled 15 of her best tracks and shared them with the world. It’s called people stories. Check it out below.
