On Thursday, WBC Heavyweight Champion Tyson Fury reaffirmed his plan to retire after knocking out Dillian Whyte during the sixth round of his latest title defense.
“This is the truth, the gospel truth, nothing but the truth, I’m done,” he said during a televised interview, according to ESPN.
“You know every good dog has his day and like the Roman leader said, there will always be someone else to fight.”
Many skeptics have wondered if Tyson Fury would return to fight the winner of an upcoming bout featuring Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk. However, Fury has shot down speculation that he would return for an undisputed title fight.
“The fans will always want more, they are always baying for more blood. But at the end of the day I don’t have anything more to give,” he continued.
“My time is to go out on a high. I always said that I wanted to walk away on top of the sport, and do it on my terms, and I didn’t want to be the person who said: ‘Well, I should have maybe retired two years ago,’ or whatever.”
If Fury sticks to his plan to retire, the WBC will order a title fight between former champion Deontay Wilder and the winner of this summer’s clash between Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker.
