Tyrus Thomas the 4th pick in the 2006 NBA draft might finally be getting back into the league after a year and a half hiatus.
The Grizzlies are in “serious discussions” with free agent forward Tyrus Thomas about signing him to a 10-day contract, a source told Yahoo.

The Memphis Grizzlies are looking for a little help down low to alleviate some of the heavy minutes Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol have been playing. With only one other true big man getting minutes on this roster the Memphis Grizzlies are making the appropriate inquiries to at least make it look like they want to stay competitive in this strong Western Conference this season.
Tyrus Thomas, a once promising looking prospect coming out of LSU found himself waived in 2013 by the Charlotte Bobcats amidst five-year 40 million dollar contract. He recently signed with the Iowa Energy D-League team as an effort to show the NBA he was still a productive player. He was recently quoted in an interview with CBS Sports saying,
“The last two years I’ve just been miserable, I hate when people say, ‘You’re getting paid, so it’s cool.’ No, it’s not [expletive] cool. I’m [expletive] miserable sitting at home.”
In his first D-league game with the Iowa energy he scored 15 points, five rebounds, two blocks, one assist and 3 turnovers in 24 minutes. Maybe that’s what got the Memphis Grizzlies attention. These next couple days we should figure out if Tyrus Thomas will get a second shot with the weakened Memphis front court.
