Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Tyronn Lue will return for Thursday’s game against the Washington Wizards after missing nine games due to health issues that included symptoms such as chest pain and sleep loss. The news of Lue’s return comes from Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com:
Tyronn Lue will resume his role as Cavaliers head coach Thursday against the Washington Wizards, two team sources told cleveland.com.
The Cavs won eight of their nine games in Lue’s absence. Prior to that nine-game stretch, their record was 40-29. The Cavs have been coached by assistant coach Larry Drew in Lue’s absence. Lue also missed a game in December, so overall on the season, Drew has coached the Cavs to a 9-1 record.
It’s a good sign that Lue is returning. In a statement announcing his illness, Lue said that: “Despite a battery of tests, there have been no conclusions as to what the exact issue is.”
It’s unclear whether or not Lue has since learned what exactly is the cause of these health issues, but it’s definitely a positive sign that his doctors feel he is well enough to be back on the sideline for the Cavs.
