I am starting to like Tyronn Lue. I don’t think I’ve seen any of LeBron James’ coaches tell him to do more. That is because this year is the only time that he is not dominating the the team trying to lead in every way. He is allowing his team to do some of the work.
But Tyronn Lue is a legitimate coach, he saw that LeBron James wasn’t playing at optimum pace and according to ESPN.com he told LeBron to pick up the pace.
“I just told LeBron I need him to play faster,” Lue said Friday. “I need him to pick up the pace for us offensively, getting the ball out and just beginning to play faster.”
Lue held an extensive film session Friday, and his message was clear to his players: They must increase the speed of their offensive movement, because playing slowly is what the Warriors bait opponents into.
Lue’s message was reminiscent of January, when his first order of business when taking over the coaching job from David Blatt was to make a point of the Cavs’ need to put their foot on the gas. It contributed to the Cavs turning into the No. 1 offense in the league in terms of efficiency over the last two months of the season.
Lue is certainly a proponent of a fast pace game and on the face of it, isn’t that to the detriment of the Cavs?
Many a team has attempted to play faster than the Warriors and have gotten bit for it. Tyronn Lue might need to consider that philosophy of fast pace and try to tweak it in order to get these wins. Maybe he shouldn’t have been so lax about whoever won the WCF.
