The New Orleans Pelicans announced that guard Tyreke Evans underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. An official press release from the Pelicans stated that Evans’ timetable for return will be announced at a later date.
Evans is no stranger to knee surgery. The former Rookie of the Year had arthroscopic surgery on the same knee this past May after playing a career-high 79 games in the 2014-15 season. Evans averaged 16.6 points, 6.6 assists and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.
Evans has played in two preseason games for the Pelicans, averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. Head coach Alvin Gentry will be without his most dynamic perimeter player for the near future, and as point guard Jrue Holiday is still progressing towards full health, he may be putting an even heavier emphasis on Anthony Davis early in the season.
UPDATE:
Evans is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with this latest injury. Following from Jon Reid of the Times-Picayune.
New Orleans Pelicans guard Tyreke Evans is expected to be out six to eight weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Tuesday for the second time since May, Alvin Gentry told reporters on Wednesday.
If Evans takes the full eight weeks to fully recover, he would not return until early December. If it takes six weeks, Evans would likely miss the first 14 games before returning around Nov. 23.
