The Arizona Cardinals drafted Tyrann Mathieu in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft. Mathieu, 25, is a young established star in the NFL. On Wednesday the Arizona Cardinals needed to create some cap space to sign free agent quarterback Sam Bradford. Arizona released Mathieu after the team asked him to take a pay cut to trim his salary to about $8 million but Mathieu wasn’t interested. Mathieu was set to make $14.1 million with the Cardinals this season and didn’t want to take a pay cut since he is over two years removed from his ACL injury and finally feels 100 percent after playing his first full season since his injury in December of 2015.
Mathieu is now taking a gamble on himself by playing on an one-year contract for less money. The Honey Badger is joining a talented defense that includes a few stars such as J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney. On the other side of the ball is Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins. The biggest problem for the Texans stars is staying on the field. Last year we saw Watt and Watson fall victim to season ending injuries.
