Tyler, The Creator Celebrates 25th Anniversary Of The Black Eyed Peas’ Debut Album: ‘Still Amazing’

Nearly a decade ago, Tyler, The Creator found himself at an interesting point in his career. He and the entire Odd Future collective made an impact on the blog scene and mainstream music space with the success of records like “Yonkers” and projects like Goblin. Following the success of his sophomore album, Wolf, he made a transition of sorts and began working on what would eventually be Cherry Bomb. In the midst of that transition, he made a bet with none other than will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas.

“I made a bet with [will.i.am] for a million bucks that I will be making money [ten] years from now doing what I love and not what makes the most,” Tyler, The Creator tweeted in October 2013.

In 2023, it’s safe to say that Tyler, The Creator is doing what he loves and pushing music and fashion forward in inventive ways. Coming off of the success of his latest release, the California native took time out of his day to celebrate will.i.am and the iconic group, The Black Eyed Peas. This month, the group reflects upon their debut album, Behind The Front.

“will.i.am is still a dipstick, but 25 years ago Behind The Front by the Black Eyed Peas [was] released. [It was] one of the first hip-hop albums I owned. [At seven] years old, I wrote my first rap to the second half of ‘Positivity,'” he tweeted.

“Thank you for helping shape my ear and getting me started to write words down.”

The Black Eyed Peas frontman thanked Tyler, The Creator for his kind words and said that he was “beyond proud” of the Grammy Award winner. However, he didn’t provide an update on that 2013 bet.
