Denver Nuggets starting point guard Ty Lawson has had a very rough 2015. Lawson has been the face of the franchise for the past couple years but that clearly needs to change due to their lack of consistent success. Sure there have been plenty of injuries to blame but if you’re the franchise centerpiece the buck always stops with you.
Lawson has pretty much lost his job as Denver went on and drafted Emmanuel Mudiay, who should be an absolute stud at point guard for years to come. Lawson released a video after the Mudiay pick of himself smoking some substance, most likely hookah, and saying he was headed to the Sacramento Kings. Mudiay’s gaudy summer league performances have only pushed Lawson further out the door.
Lawson was also arrested last week for a DUI, his second in the past six months. Rumors had been swirling that Denver is shopping the troubled but talented guard but their asking price was too high. Reportedly, the club was thinking of just waiving the UNC product due to his baggage.
Now it seems Lawson is taking some steps in the right direction to salvage his career as he is to check himself into a rehab center for the next 30 days, according to TMZ. This has been a pretty steep drop from glory for the 5’11” guard as he went from key franchise player to completely expendable. The rehab center is a pretty encouraging sign however as it is clear that at least Lawson is trying to make something out of his once promising career.
