Recently, the Houston Rockets waived the white flag on Ty Lawson island and gave up on the former perennial All-Star. They waived him and now Lawson is a free agent looking to join a squad in hopes for a rejuvenation in his career.
Lawson appears to be in advanced discussions with the Indiana Pacers on a deal that would bring him to be the main scoring punch of the Indiana bench.
Following from Shams Charania of The Vertical on Yahoo! Sports.
Guard Ty Lawson is engaged in serious discussions with the Indiana Pacers on a deal, league sources told The Vertical.
Lawson has had traction with two more teams on the market, but discussions with the Pacers have grown the most serious, league sources said.
Lawson, 28, and his reps are expected to continue talking with the Pacers over the next couple of days.
Lawson joining the Pacers could give Indiana a legit scoring punch next to Paul George. Even in the days of success in 2014 the Pacers were scrambling to get a guy who could consistently put up 15 with PG-13. This season, Monta Ellis has attempted to play that role but it hasn’t resulted in much success for Indiana.
The Pacers are currently seventh in the Eastern Conference, a game out of being the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference but they are also 1.5 games out of being the 10th seed in the East. A little losing streak could see the Pacers drop so adding a legit scoring punch would help their progress.
The only thing is, what does Ty Lawson have left? His season with Houston has been far from good.
UPDATE:
Shams Charania reports that Lawson and the Pacers have agreed to a deal.
