28-year-old Indiana Pacers point guard Ty Lawson was pleased to defeat the team which he spent most of this season with: the Houston Rockets. The Pacers and Rockets went head-to-head on Sunday, and the Pacers came away with the win, 104-101. Lawson played an efficient game, finishing with 6 points and 5 assists in just under 14 minutes of action.
Lawson was excited about the win. From Nate Taylor of IndyStar:
Inside a joyful Pacers locker room, Lawson used two words to describe his feelings about Sunday’s outcome: “Hell yeah.”
Then with a grin, Lawson expanded on his thoughts.
“I wanted to beat them by 20,” he said. “I’m glad we got the win. It does feel good to beat them.”
Lawson, who was bought out by the Rockets in February, and was signed by the Pacers within a week. Already, Lawson looks to be fitting in better in Indiana. Though he has yet to play significant minutes, his field goal percentage is up to 47.4%, up from 38.7% with the Rockets. Lawson spoke a bit about what went wrong in Houston:
“The organization is cool, it’s just that the personnel didn’t work out,” he said. “I just know I was a better player than what I was showing there. I wasn’t being used the right way. I’m not a space player. I like to have the ball in my hands.”
It doesn’t look like Lawson is holding any grudges towards Houston, which is good. Both parties seem to agree that it just wasn’t a good fit. No hard feelings. Hopefully Lawson can find a good fit in Indiana.
