Ty Lawson knows that going to Houston was an upgrade from where he was. What irks me with some players is that they’re so good, they got so much potential, but they’re getting weighed down by the garbage team they’re on. DeMarcus Cousins is one I think of immediately, if he was on a contending team. It’s a wrap.
Lawson was one of those players to me. Averages 9-10 assists a game but because he’s on ‘middle of the road’ Denver, nobody notices.
But now that he’s on a title contender, he can truly flex and Lawson knows that they need him.
“Oh yeah for sure,” Lawson said. “I was like before I even came to the team I was talking to James. I was like ‘man get me over there.’ I’ll be that piece to (help) get over the hump. It’s definitely a breath of fresh air….
“I feel like last year watching the playoffs, they definitely need another playmaker,” Lawson said. “You could tell James got a little bit tired. He had to come down and score and make passes every time on the court. So I just want to relieve a little bit of pressure for him the best way I can.”
That is exactly correct. Once Harden had nothing left in the tank, who’s going to take the ball? Dwight Howard? Yea let’s see him do an isolation play.
Lawson will definitely lighten Harden’s load, which means that you shouldn’t expect Harden’s MVP form all the time. But in exchange for an MVP vote, he might get a ring. But then again Harden is nowhere to be seen when it counts in the Playoffs. So we’ll see.
