Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson was arrested on Friday morning due to suspicion of DUI. Lawson was taken into police custody at 1:19 am after going 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.
The arresting officer claimed Lawson’s speech was slurred, his breath had a strong odor of alcohol, he was swaying, and that his eyes were bloodshot. The former first round pick out of North Carolina agreed to take a sobriety test, which ended up failing.
Lawson was cited for speeding, DUI, and careless driving.
The point guard attended the “Nuggets Social” on Thursday night, which the team describes as “(A night) that gives fans the unique opportunity to spend an interactive evening with their favorite Denver Nuggets players, coaches, alumni, dancers and Super Mascot Rocky while raising funds to support Kroenke Sports Charities youth recreation, health and education programs in Colorado.”
This isn’t Lawson’s first known DUI, has he told police that he had a previous one in Missouri while still playing for the University of North Carolina.
Lawson didn’t play Friday night against the Boston Celtics and is still waiting to see what action, if any, that NBA commissioner Adam Silver will take.
