Former President Donald Trump will turn himself in to authorities in Fulton County on Thursday, August 22.
“Can you believe it? I’ll be going to Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday to be [arrested] by a [r]radical [l]eft [d]district [a]ttorney, Fani Willis, who is overseeing one of the greatest [m]urder and [v]iolent Crime [disasters] in American history,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump is accused of attempting to overturn the results of the most recent election by influencing state officials in Georgia. As a result, he has been charged with 13 state crimes, including election fraud and racketeering. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee has set Trump’s bail at $200,000.
The stipulations for release outlined in Trump’s bond order extend further than those delineated in previously approved bond orders. In contrast to certain co-defendants, the former president is restricted from utilizing social media to target his 18 co-defendants, witnesses, or the 30 non-indicted, co-conspirators associated with the case.
“The Defendant shall refrain from any action intended to intimidate individuals known to him or her as codefendants or witnesses in this case, or to obstruct the proper functioning of the legal system,” states the order signed by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee.
The order holds the signatures of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and three of Trump’s attorneys, including Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg and Jennifer Little. Additionally, the order prohibits Trump from engaging in any form of direct or indirect communication regarding the case with his co-defendants or witnesses, except through his legal representatives. A similar provision has been incorporated into bond orders for some of his co-defendants.
On the evening of Monday, August 13, Fani Willis, District Attorney of Fulton County in Georgia, declared that former President Donald Trump and his 18 associates, confronted with 41 felony charges, must present themselves by noon ET on Friday, August 25th.
While the grand jury has issued arrest warrants, these warrants remain inactive until the district attorney enters them into the Georgia Crime Information Center, the state’s crime database. This step is anticipated if an individual fails to surrender voluntarily within the specified timeframe. When assessing any and all bond agreement(s), the judge’s evaluation involves determining whether the defendant poses a flight risk, is likely to commit additional felonies before the trial, does not present a threat to the community, and is not inclined to intimidate witnesses or obstruct the case in any manner.
