An internal takeover may be under way in Cleveland. Disregard the “LeBron Shove” in which LeBron moved coach David Blatt to avoid a technical but do strongly consider how much pull LeBron does have in the organization.
In a recent article by Yahoo Sports Adrian Wojnarowski, he questions when LeBron James is going to actually show his leadership for the team.
Well now, according to Wojnarowski, LeBron James may have an influential part in recent contract discussions for young forward Tristan Thompson and the Cavaliers.
From Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports:
So far, the Cavaliers have witnessed LeBron James, the businessman. As much as ever, the Cavs discovered that the opening week of the regular season in contract talks on forward Tristan Thompson, with the Oct. 31 deadline approaching for the draft class of 2011 rookie extensions looming. James’ agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, represents Thompson.
Thompson turned down a $13 million-a-year extension offer – four-years, $52 million, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
James may have had a bigger part in the Thompson deal than people would think. The ties are there between agents, they’re both represented by Rich Paul and we all know how much LeBron and Rich Paul are closely tied together.
For Thompson though, this may be best for him to optimize the most out of his contract situation. I mean look at the situation now in Cleveland. Kevin Love might be opting out at season’s end so that would mean the Cavaliers are in need of a starting power forward sometime soon.
Thompson is still young and at 23 years old, him going after the most money possible would be best for the tenacious forward.
