Money really makes the world go round doesn’t it? I swear that’s all we talk about. Sure the game is sometimes part of it but whether it’s in the foreground or the background, money is always part of the conversation. It’s sad but oh well.
Tristan Thompson, is all about the money at this moment in time. He is still battling the Cleveland Cavaliers who are going to have their hands in Dan Gilbert’s pocket for all eternity. They offered $80 Million to the boy, but oh no, he’s not hot on that number at all. His peers are apparently getting more than that.
Thompson and the Cavaliers had reached an agreement early in free agency that was believed to have been centered on a five-year deal worth some $80 million. The problem with doing a deal at that number is that virtually everyone in Thompson’s talent range got substantially more, most receiving the NBA maximum salary, some for less years, but most for the same year one dollar amount.
Thompson’s camp pulled back from the $80 million number, wanting the Cavs to step up with more based on what virtually everyone else in Thompson’s peer range got.
I really don’t know what will happen now. I mean the Cavs might as well cave in, they’re in luxury tax hell. Might as well lock up Thompson.
Problem is that his peers don’t have competition in their own team, remember Thompson only got minutes because most of Cleveland was out with injury. And now, everybody is healthy. Love, Varejao, Mozgov. Where is Thompson going to go in that stack?
