It’s been a long and dramatic summer for Tristan Thompson, Rich Paul and the Cleveland Cavaliers. While the Cavs returned most of their main roster, they managed to get a sizeable trade exception from Brendan Haywood and also kept LeBron James happy in the process.
One aspect they had yet to lock down was the contract for their young forward Tristan Thompson. Now, after the dust has settled and training camps around the league are getting set to begin, it appears the Cavs are at least closer to signing Thompson for the next couple of years.

The deal for Thompson and the Cavs seems to be a responsible deal for both sides. It was reported that Thompson wanted the max for his scale and nothing less and that if he didn’t get it and if he was forced to sign the qualifying offer, Thompson wouldn’t return to the Cavaliers beyond next season.
Now that Thompson is locked up for at least the next three years it allows the young forward to play out these season, see where he progresses as a player and see where the Cavs and most importantly LeBron James is after the next couple of years. Who knows what could happen in the next 3 years but one is all but guaranteed. Thompson will be back in a wine and gold jersey.
