This may be an understatement, but 23-year-old point guard Trey Burke is happy that he’s no longer in Utah. Burke, now a member of the Washington Wizards, spoke with reporters about his time with the Jazz after the team’s loss to the Atlanta Hawks:
“The couldn’t break me,” Burke told reporters. “That’s what they tried to do, they couldn’t break me, though. You know, they were giving me DNPs. Everybody asking me, ‘What’s going on. Why you not playing?’ There’s a reason why everybody’s asking me that. I just kept my head up. You know, I was a great team guy. Everybody can vouch for that over there. You know I never really complained. I worked hard every day and waited for my opportunity.
After a fantastic career at the University of Michigan, Burke was selected ninth overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2013, and was subsequently traded to Utah. For his career, Burke has averaged 11.9 points and 4.1 assists per game on .384/.328/.813 shooting splits.
Burke was traded to Washington for a future second-round draft pick this summer.
As John Wall’s backup for Washington this season, Burke has underwhelmed (albeit in a six-game sample size). Burke is averaging 2.5 points in just 11.5 minutes per game on 36.8% shooting from the floor.
