The Philadelphia 76ers have had a busy offseason, with a few key names departing from the club while others have joined. Philly’s latest signing is a veteran point guard who has proven he can score in bunches if given the right opportunity.
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, the Sixers have agreed to a one-year deal with point guard Trey Burke.

The 76ers now land another backup guard option in Trey Burke who can prove to be extremely valuable for Philadelphia this season. The Sixers lost longtime backup point guard TJ McConnell to the Pacers in free agency this summer. McConnell had been one of the Sixers’ primary bench options since they drafted him back in 2015.
However with McConnell now in Indiana, this opens the door for Philadelphia to experiment with other candidates vying for a backup guard spot. The Sixers added Raul Neto earlier in the offseason and now bring in Burke who has started to come around again as a serviceable NBA player after a few down years.
Burke split last season with both the Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks. Though Burke’s efficiency has never been anything to write home about, he did contribute last season with both clubs. On the year, Burke averaged 10.9 points and 2.7 assists in 58 appearances including eight starts.
Now there’s a great chance Burke will again hold down a vital backup point guard role next season, this time for a championship contender. Burke could prove to be an x-factor for Philly next season or get lost in the mix if he fails to stand out from the rest of their reserves.
