Five-star recruit Travis Hunter has revealed that he will play college football at Jackson State University in the fall.
Hunter’s decision to attend Jackson State University comes as a surprise to many because he had previously expressed interest in playing football at Florida State University. Instead, he will play for the man who put Florida State University on the map, Deion Sanders.
“Florida State has always been a beacon for me,” Hunter said.
“I grew up down there, that’s where my roots are, and I never doubted that I would play for the Seminoles.”
Hunter’s decision to attend Jackson State University is historic. He is the first five-star recruit to play for a historically Black college or university in the modern era.
“Historically Black Colleges and Universities have a rich history in football,” Hunter explained.
“I want to be part of that history, and more, I want to be part of that future. I am making this decision so that I can light the way for others to follow, make it a little easier for the next player to recognize that HBCUs may be everything you want and more.”
