Michael Bay has another $1 billion hit on his hands.
The fourth installment of the Transformers franchise, ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction’ has surpassed the $1 billion mark in ticket sales worldwide. It is the first film of the year to reach this mark. It is now the 18th highest grossing movie of all time passing ‘The Dark Knight’ and just below ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’.
The movie had a huge international pull which contributed to its success. ‘Age’ has become the highest grossing film ever in China with over $300 million.
Other movies that have achieved the $1 billion feat are ‘Avatar’, ‘Titanic’, ‘Frozen’, and ‘The Avengers’.
It still trails behind the franchise’s other billion dollar maker ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ which pulled in $1.12 billion back in 2011 and sits pretty as the 7th highest grossing film of all time.
