A couple of weeks ago I was watching Sons of Anarchy and I couldn’t help but realize the similarities to the Sopranos. Both gang-related shows where there is a big boss controlling everything that happens and a younger member of the crew who doesn’t agree as much with the way things are run. Sons of Anarchy went on for about 7 seasons and created a cult-like following for itself, while Soprano went on to become a critically acclaimed show and maybe being one of the best series ever made.
So what does that all mean? It means there always is and forever will be money in making mafia and gangster shows and movies. Always. For that reason, FX announced last year that they will be working on a Sons of Anarchy spin-off called ‘Mayans MC’. For those of you who don’t know, the Mayans gang is a Mexican biker gang that resides on the border between the U.S and Mexico and helps traffic a good amount of narcotics into the states. This is their story, and like Sons of Anarchy, we can see it’s all about family.
The first season follows ‘Easy’ who after having some run-ins with the law finds himself trying to become a member of the Mayans biker gang. As he navigates his way through the dark life of being a gang member, he earns respect and patches that engrave him into a new family and a new life.
