Trail Blazers Overcome Short-Handed Spurs 108-95
The Portland Trail Blazers were up against a depleted San Antonio Spurs team at home on Monday night and went on to take a comfortable 108-95 victory. Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge led the way for Portland with 23 points each. Aldridge added 14 rebounds and Lillard was on triple-double watch with 10 rebounds and 6 assists.
Kawhi Leonard had a team-high 21 points for the Spurs, who played without Tony Parker, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tiago Splitter, and Patty Mills.
The Spurs were able to maintain an efficient shooting percentage and stayed with Portland throughout the game until the final minutes. San Antonio even finished with a higher field goal percentage at 48 percent but simply didn’t get enough scoring or stops to make a substantial run. Still, six Spurs players scored in double figures, including rookie Kyle Anderson’s 15 points off the bench. The Trail Blazer bench outmatched the Spurs’ bench 37-25 thanks to combined contributions from Chris Kaman (11 points), Allen Crabbe (8 points), Joel Freeland (6 points) and Thomas Robinson (7 points).
The Trail Blazers move to 19-6 and the Spurs are now 17-8 on the season.
