Sunday afternoon, the number one seeded Golden State Warriors defeated the eighth-seeded Portland Trail Blazers 121-109 to take a 1-0 series lead. Although the score isn’t indicative of how close the game was, these two teams were going back and forth until the Warriors pulled away in the 4th quarter.
During their back and forth sequences, the most notable interaction came from Warriors forward Draymond Green and Blazers guards Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. On separate occasions, Green and one of the Portland guards were seen talking trash to one another. After the game, CJ McCollum and Damian Lillard were asked about the exchanges of trash talk and had this to say.
Following from Chris Haynes of ESPN.
“For me, it’s just going to make me raise the level of my game because I take [Green’s trash talk] as a challenge,” Lillard said after his team’s 121-109 loss. “I’m going to take exception to it, and I’m going to say something back. That’s what it’s going to be, as long as that’s how he’s approaching it — it’s going to be coming right back.”
“Yeah, it’s a game. It’s a game we all love. We come out here, represent our teams, representing our hometowns where everybody’s from. And where I’m from, if you talk trash, then I’m going to talk trash to you. It’s not disrespectful. We’re not talking about nobody’s mamas or nothing bad.
It seems there’s no love loss between the three players, but the Blazers’ guards don’t look to be backing down anytime soon.
