During the playoffs, the Portland Trail Blazers had not yet discussed a contract extension with their head coach Terry Stotts. After they lossed to the Warriors in game 5 of the second round, Portland players endorsed Stotts returning to the team, but last week it was announced that Stotts was not a “slam dunk” to return as the head coach. Now, per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the two sides have agreed on a contract extension that will take him through the 2020 season.

Stotts just finished an amazing season with the Blazers who pushed the Warriors in the second round of the playoffs. He was able to get the most out of his young roster, and there is nothing but room to grow for this team. He finished second in the Coach of the Year voting this season, behind Golden State’s Steve Kerr, even though his team lost four starters last summer and this season looked like a rebuilding year.
Stotts did a phenomenal job this year, and there was no way this deal wasn’t going to get done eventually. He is an amazing coach, he has the support of the locker room, and he will continue to fight with the Blazers to win an NBA Championship.
