After suffering an ankle injury during Wednesday night’s game against the New York Knicks, Trae Young underwent an MRI. The MRI revealed a Grade 2 lateral sprain in his left ankle. The talented NBA All-Star is expected to return to play once the swelling and discomfort subside. It was a close call for an injury that looked like it could have been rough.
This comes among a flurry of other NBA injuries that some are blaming on the cramped schedule paired with the small break between the Bubble and this season. Regardless, the Hawks will have their best player back before the Playoffs. They currently sit 5th in the Eastern Conference standings, with the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat hot on their heels.

Young leads the team in scoring as well as assists. This season, he is averaging 25.3 PPG and 9.6 APG. Those numbers have helped the Hawks become the Playoff team they are. Along with the defensive play from Clint Capela, Young has weapons around him now. He has always been seen as a scorer, but his passing ability is overlooked or seen as stat-padding by doubters.
With the Hawks sitting in the middle of the East, they are going to have to fight off some good teams that may be surging to end the season. The Celtics look good whenever they are healthy and could come up and take that 5th seed from Atlanta. The Heat have had their share of issues this season, but are still in striking distance. Then the hottest team in the NBA, the New York Knicks sit above the Hawks and are trying to distance themselves in 4th.
