Raptors rookie Terrence Ross beat the 2011 defending slam dunk contest champion Jeremy Evans of the Utah Jazz in the event’s final round. No Rookie had won the contest since Atlanta’s forward Josh Smith did it in 2005. The first round of the contest is decided by a judge, however, the final round is decided by fan voting, using different social media platforms.
In the final round Ross used two dunks, one was a 360 alley oop from the side of the backboard, in this dunk Ross used a jersey of former member of the Raptors and 2000 dunk contest winner Vince Carter. The second was a dunk in which he jumped over a ball boy and going through between his legs in the process.
