The Toronto Raptors, in my opinion have some of the sickest set of logos and kits I’ve seen. The retro kits, their current logo and uniforms. I love them.
But it seems that they’re going for another re-branding. According to the Toronto Star. They’re going for the Brooklyn Nets look.
Many felt the stylized black and white basketball with a claw mark was a little too similar to the logo of the rival Brooklyn Nets, who bumped the Raptors from the playoffs last season.
Some fans heading to the Pistons game in Detroit weren’t impressed.“To be honest, it reminds me of Brooklyn,” said Tristan Rivera, echoing other sentiments on Twitter.
“Not sure how to feel about new @Raptors logo. Needs some color. Clean but entirely too Brooklyn,” tweeted Varand Khachadouri.
But Friday’s unveiling was merely the black and white drawing of the new logo — new uniforms and a full colour version of the new logo will be released in January.
“We’ve been working on it for a while,” said Raptors GM Masai Ujiri. “When you see the whole thing, it’s actually nothing like (Brooklyn). Our colours stay the same.”
I think they shouldn’t re-brand themselves. I think they have a perfect balance now. Modern but also linking to their roots. It’s what all the franchises with great kits do. Boston, Miami, the Lakers.
Of course it’s a matter of opinion. Some Raptors fans like it, some Raptors fans hate it. I’m going to wait until the kits come out.
Brooklyn? Oh sorry. You can see my confusion.
