Topher Grace is officially playing the former leader of the KKK, David Duke, in director Spike Lee’s upcoming film BlacKkKlansman.
The news was announced last week at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. There, a trailer for the film was also premiered. It was previously announced that Grace would be in the film but it was unknown what role he would play.
The film is based on the real-life story of Ron Stallworth. Stallworth was an African-American detective in the 70s with the Colorado Springs Police Department who infiltrated the highest levels of the KKK. John David Washington, the son of long-time Spike Lee collaborator Denzel Washington, is set to star as Stallworth. Adam Driver will play Stallworth’s partner, Flip Zimmerman. Laura Harrier, Ryan Eggold, and Robert John Burke are also on tap to appear in the film.
The thriller is based on Ron Stallworth’s book and was adapted for the screen by Spike Lee and David Rabinowitz.
The film is set to release later this year on August 10th.
