Tony Romo’s career might be taking one step close to ending his career. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback is once again facing some injury issues concerning his back and this time it could mean he misses the start of the 2016 campaign.
Following from Mike Florio of NBC’s Pro Football Talk.
Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Romo is expected to miss 6-10 weeks with a broken bone in his back. The team will be announcing the injury; it’s unclear whether the team will put a duration on the absence.
And Florio also added this from Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett.
…coach Jason Garrett said Saturday that he won’t rule out Romo for Week One.
Regardless of whether Romo could play that soon (and there’s a very, very, very strong chance he won’t be able to), there’s no reason to rule him out now. The injury-reporting rules, as revised, don’t mandate the attachment of any label to Romo until Friday, September 9. Why should Garrett officially declare before then that Romo won’t play?
Romo’s injury could mean the end for his career but could also mean the start of a new era in Dallas. The Dak Prescott era.
The rookie QB out of Mississippi State was an early Heisman trophy candidate both of his final years in College. The Cowboys took him in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 135th overall pick. He was going to get groomed from Tony Romo as the Cowboys franchise quarterback for the last decade appeared to be getting close to the end.
Now it might be time for Prescott to step up to the plate.
UPDATE:
David Moore of the Dallas Morning News says Prescott will be named the Cowboys week 1 starter.
Dak Prescott will open season as starter. There is no debate there. Jerry and Stephen Jones say they will look for veteran backup.
