The Baltimore Ravens have informed safety Tony Jefferson that he will be released by the team. This comes ahead of the NFL deadline to cut rosters down to 53 members. With the Ravens singing New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Williams and drafting Kyle Hamilton in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the writing was on the wall for the veteran safety. Jefferson has experienced some injury problems in his career, but could still help a team with depth. He began his career with the Arizona Cardinals, spent time with Baltimore, and had a small stint with the San Francisco 49ers.
Ravens are planning to release safety Tony Jefferson, per source. Baltimore drafted Kyle Hamilton in round one and signed former Saints standout Marcus Williams, leaving less opportunity for Jefferson, who had a strong preseason, with 9 tackles in one half Saturday vs Washington.

In his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, and San Francisco 49ers, Tony Jefferson has recorded 354 solo tackles, 469 total tackles, 34 tackles for a loss, 9.5 sacks, eight forced fumbles, and four interceptions he returned for 54 yards and one touchdown. He has been a talented starting safety for the majority of his NFL career, but now injuries are starting to catch up with him.
Ravens are planning on releasing S Tony Jefferson, as @AdamSchefter reported. Ravens would like to bring Jefferson back on the practice squad, but Jefferson could have 53-man options available elsewhere. He’s a vested vet, so not subject to waiver process.

His next role in the NFL will largely depend on the interest other teams have in him. He could provide experience and depth for a team with younger defensive backs or he could return to the Baltimore Ravens as a practice squad member. Retirement has not been mentioned as of now, but could still be an option for Tony Jefferson.
