North Carolina cornerback Tony Grimes has announced that he will be entering the transfer portal. The former five-star recruit was one of the most highly touted recruits to commit to the North Carolina Tar Heels but hasn’t quite played to that level in his three years with the program. When he committed there was some thought that he would be heading to the NFL in the 2023 NFL Draft, but this will not be the case. Several power five programs will likely be interested in the former five-star cornerback.
This is a big one. Tony Grimes was one of the biggest recruits in #UNC football history. He started 28 games across three seasons. https://t.co/sxNR4mgPNt

In his three-year career with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Tony Grimes recorded 74 solo tackles, 97 total tackles, 19 passes defended, one sack, one forced fumble, and one interception that he returned for zero yards. Overall while he was a starter on the team he didn’t quite produce on an admittedly poor defensive unit to the levels he was expected to in those three seasons. A change of scenery may be exactly what he needs to get his career back on track and start getting some NFL scouting looks once again. There is no word on what programs are currently looking at him for next season.
