Tony Allen. The epitome of a role player. He has made a career out of stating what he is good at, what he is bad at and the team utilising him to the best possible Tony Allen we’ll see.
He’s a defensive minded role player that starts. You rarely see that. And what’s even more interesting is even though the Grizzlies know he’s garbage on the offensive side of the court. They don’t ask him to get a better jumpshot or anything. They’re 100% comfortable with him being useless on the offensive side and he’s 100% comfortable because of that. He doesn’t have to step outside of his comfort zone. And that’s why I’m not surprised that he wants to retire a Memphis Grizzlies player.
Five years since the Grindfather moved to the Grindhouse. Five years since Memphians met the man who would help rebrand not just their team but their town.
“It’s been that long?” said Allen.
So he says he’s going to come back, better than ever. Says he’s looking forward to the next Grindhouse campaign.
“I can’t envision myself no place else,” he said. “I got about five more years.”
Five years for the defensive specialist. Another five? I don’t see why not. As long as I don’t see him on the right side of the 3-Point line, literally on his own like the Golden State Warriors did to him. The Warriors made him look like Shaq on the 3-Point line.
