Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Tom Brady has confirmed that he is retiring from pro football after 22 seasons in the NFL. He issued a statement via his Instagram account earlier this morning.
“My playing career has been such a thrilling ride, and far beyond my imagination, and full of ups and downs. When you’re in it every day, you really don’t think about any kind of ending,” he wrote.
“As I sit here now, however, I think of all the great players and coaches I was privileged to play with and against – the competition was fierce and deep, just how we like it. But the friendships and relationships are just as fierce and deep. I will remember and cherish these memories and re-visit them often. I feel like the luckiest person in the world.”
Brady completed two seasons with the Buccaneers and 20 with the New England Patriots. Along the way, he captured seven Super Bowl titles, five Super Bowl MVP trophies and three regular-season MVP awards. He will also finish as the leading passer in every major statistical category.
Moving forward, Brady will star in ESPN’s upcoming 30 For 30 film, The Tuck Rule, on Sunday. He also plans to release the 10th and final episode of his Man In The Arena series later this spring.
