The Iona Gaels have hired FDU Knights Head Coach Tobin Anderson as the program’s next Head Coach. This comes after Iona lost legendary Head Coach Rick Pitino when the St. John’s Red Storm hired him to be their next Head Coach. Anderson led the Knights to the second-ever 16 seed upsetting a one seed in the NCAA Tournament. It is being called one of the greatest if not the greatest upsets in college basketball history. Iona will look to continue their success as a program with the 2023 NCAA Tournament cinderella Head Coach.
Welcome to #GaelNation, Tobin Anderson!
We are excited to announce the appointment of @andersontobin as the 15th head coach in #Iona men’s basketball history!#MAACHoops @ionauniversity @IonaGaels

Tobin Anderson coached division two level before taking the job with the FDU Knights last offseason. In his one year with the program he led the team to an overall record of 21-16 and a Northeast Conference record of 10-6. The historic upset was the peak of his college basketball season and his first year coaching division one basketball. Despite his limited experience at this level, after just a year he lands a bigger job in college basketball. To replace him, the FDU Knights have promoted assistant coach Jack Castleberry to be the program’s next Head Coach.
