Tips For Choosing The Right Tent For Yourself

  • December 16, 2019

Tent
(Josh Hild)

The moment you begin to pack your bags to embark on a camping trip, you reach out for the camping tent that your dad gifted you on your birthday. Camping tents are bought once every few years by campers. In all fairness, camping tents are a long term investment and give you years of uninterrupted service. A good camping tent is the one that can withstand the challenges thrown at it by the forces of nature.

A camping tent makes you feel secure, even if men wearing CDCR Uniforms are patrolling the area. A hard-wearing tent will protect you from hail storms, snow, rain, and intense heat. Experienced campers spend a good amount of time searching for the right tent. Veteran campers will tell you that buying a camping tent isn’t as easy an exercise as it might appear to the first-timers. You just cannot buy any given tent that you come across.

There are a lot of things that need to be taken into consideration while buying the right camping tent for yourself. Here, have a look:

Figure out the sleeping capacity

It is important to figure out the sleeping capacity before you go out to buy a tent. Camping tents come in various shapes and sizes. You can choose yours according to your needs and requirements. There are family-sized tents that are spacious enough to accommodate four people. You have solo tents as well. These tents have ample room to house you. It goes without saying that the more you spend, the better your tent is bound to be.

Go for a 4-season tent

Those who camp frequently will be well aware of the fact that buying different tents can be an expensive exercise. Therefore, it is better to opt for an all-season tent. These tents will cost you more than other tents, but tents such as these happen to be a long-term investment. These will keep you comfortable (warm and dry) irrespective of the weather conditions overhead.

Make sure there is ample headroom

Well, there is nothing worse than getting to sleep in a congested tent. The tent you choose should have ample headroom. In simple words, your head should not touch the roof of your tent when you stand upright.

The tent style you choose

Cabin-style tents These tents come with vertical walls (near about vertical). This tends to increase the overall height of the tent along with the livable space. These tents come with partitions and divisions to provide the occupants with ample living space.
Dome-style tents: These tents have excellent wind-shedding abilities. Dome-style tents are made for you if you are going camping in a region that experiences heavy rainfall. The downside is: they have little livable space.

Zippered doors are good:

It is always good to have zippered doors. These can be opened and closed without much hassle. Also, zippered doors cannot be opened easily by wild animals. If you are looking for camping tents that can be opened and closed with ease, then go for the ones with zippered doors.

Most importantly: As a camper, you should never settle for the cheapest option. Experienced campers are well aware of the importance of a hard wearing tent. Go for a tent that is tough enough to withstand the rigours of everyday use.

Do keep all of these things in mind the next time you go out to get a camping tent. Hardwearing camping tents will go a long way in making your camping experiences better. Therefore, it is always a good idea to get a tent that’s tough and rugged.
