The Minnesota Timberwolves have informed All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler that they will offer him a four-year max contract worth $110 million, reports Marc Stein of the New York Times:
The Timberwolves began free agency by informing star guard Jimmy Butler that they intend to offer him a maximum contract extension valued in the four-year, $110 million range as soon as he's eligible to sign the deal on July 9, league sources say

This deal would net Butler about $27.5 million annually.
Butler is still under contract for next season, so he doesn’t need to sign an extension this summer. If he decides not to re-up with Minny this offseason, he could stand to make significantly more money; he could opt out next offseason and re-sign for around $190 million over five years (about $38 million annually). Or, if he doesn’t want to stay in Minnesota, he could still sign for up to four years, $141 million next summer (about $35 million annually). There’s something to be said for locking up a big deal as soon as he can, however, ensuring security.
