The Minnesota Timberwolves plan to interview Mark Jackson for its vacant head coaching position, a league source tells Jon Krawczynski of The Associated Press. Krawcyznski broke the news via Twitter early this morning.
Mark Jackson, a former All-Star point guard, was hired by the Golden State Warriors in 2011 as head coach after spending 17 seasons in the league as a player. Jackson played a key role in guiding the Golden State Warriors to their elite status today, helping in the development of the team in his three-year stint as head coach.
Under Jackson’s first season as head coach, the Warriors finished the lockout season with a 23-43 (.348) record. The following year, they improved to 47-35 (.573). In Jackson’s final season with the team before being fired, the Warriors finished with an vastly improved 51-31 record (.622) compared to when Jackson first took over.
After being fired as head coach of the Warriors, Jackson later re-joined ESPN on a multi-year deal as a broadcast analyst, currently serving during games of the 2016 NBA Playoffs.

Jackson joins a strong mix of candidates reportedly in the running for Minnesota’s coaching position, a list that includes former Chicago coach Tom Thibodeau, and co-ESPN broadcast analyst Jeff Van Gundy. Thibodeau and Van Gundy have already been interviewed for the vacant position, with Jackson set to be interviewed next in the very near future.
