During the San Antonio Spurs almost 40 point blowout of the Oklahoma City Thunder, the greatest member of the team make a three pointer. No, it wasn’t Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili or any of the usual suspects, it was in fact Tim Duncan.
Timmy drained a 3 pointer, which was only his second made three pointer of the season. The score at that point was 84-59 and the Spurs were well on their way to a 130-91 win over the Thunder.
Ok cool, Tim Duncan made a three pointer. We just saw DeAndre Jordan make his first career 3 pointer not too long ago, it’s fun but whatever.
That is until gambling gets involved.
According to Duncan’s girlfriend, Vanessa Macias, Duncan bet his friend from college $100 he would make a 3.

Yea, that’s cool and all but there’s just one little bitty problem.
That’s a direct violation of the NBA constitution. The rules of the league.
Any Player who, directly or indirectly, wagers money or anything of value on the outcome of any game played by a Team in the league operated by the Association shall, on being charged with such wagering, be given an opportunity to answer such charges after due notice, and the decision of the Commissioner shall be final, binding and conclusive and unappealable. The penalty for such offense shall be within the absolute and sole discretion of the Commissioner and may include a fine, suspension, expulsion and/or perpetual disqualification from further association with the Association or any of its Members.
$100 bucks to Tim Duncan is probably nothing, I understand that. There is a problem though with the league just barely getting over the historic Tim Donaghy scandal directly involving gambling and the NBA.
So Adam Silver has a situation on his hands. Does he make an example out of Tim Duncan or will he just issue a warning and presumably brush it under the rug?
It’s remained to be seen but one thing is for sure, this is done A LOT more thank people think. What makes it bad is that Duncan’s girlfriend POSTED IT ON TWITTER FOR EVERYONE TO SEE.
