Is it possible that we might see the Kings of the 00’s retire in the same season? We have known since day 1 that Tim Duncan is not one for the glitz and glamour that being a basketball player can offer. We know that he just gets the job done and goes home. He’s simple with his methods and that’s respectable.
Like all of us, he has been watching Kobe Bryant’s season-long farewell and as he faces the big 4-0, it is possible that Tim Duncan might do a classic Timmy and simply dissappear after the season ends. Retire, officially ending the Kobe/Duncan era.
Watching all this from afar, another future Hall of Famer decided that type of farewell tour is not for him.
“Not my deal,” Tim Duncan said. “Not my style.”
Know this for certain: When Duncan calls it quits, there will be no long goodbye.
“He’s going to wake up one day and say ‘I’m done,’ ” guard Manu Ginobili said, “and you’re never going to see him again.”
Which is to say, that Duncan farewell tour? You might be looking at it.
It’s surreal enough knowing that we’ll never see Kobe in a Lakers jersey again, but Tim Duncan as well?! That man could play until he’s 50 if he really wanted to, his game is the classic old man game. Why do you think he’s called the “Big Fundamental”?
So when you watch the Spurs this postseason, just keep in your mind that it might be the last few times you’ll see Tim Duncan suit up.
