TikTok creator Jera Bean has uncovered a new feature that will allow followers to directly tip content creators throughout the social media app. Better yet, it appears that the social media giant will not take a cut of tips that followers provide. Excited by this news, social media consultant Matt Navarra, The Verge and Tech Crunch amplified the new feature and elicited a response from the app itself.
“We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” a spokesperson for TikTok informed Tech Crunch.
TikTok is not the first social media giant to introduce such a feature. Most notably, Twitter offers a “Tip Jar” for journalists, nonprofits and other creators. Instagram, Twitch and YouTube have also experimented with similar features that allow consumers to directly support their favorite content creators.
The feature is still in its early stages on TikTok, so users should expect changes in the future. Most notably, users should expect that TikTok may take a cut of tips in the future. Also, this feature will likely be available to a select set of users.
