Set boundaries. Take care of yourself. Walk away from things or people that no longer serve you. If you have good, caring friends and family, you’ve probably heard these phrases before. But how often do we actually take the advice? Well, if you haven’t and maybe even if you have, longtime collaborators H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas, are here to tell you yet again that the path toward a more peaceful, happier life begins with cleaning out your own closet and making room for the things and people that pour into you rather than those that do not.
The duo’s new single, “Move,” is a slow-burn anthem of self-preservation, less a rallying cry than a declaration with teeth. It’s a song about boundaries, about the grace and grit it takes to excise yourself from people and places that have outlived their usefulness. The tempo drags like a heavy heart, but the lyrics insist on motion. Ultimately, when the final note of the Non Native and Luis Bordeaux-crafted production winds to a close, “Move” leaves listeners with a reminder that walking away is sometimes the most radical form of progress.
“Move comes from a place of reclaiming my power and peace,” Tiara shares. “It’s about not being a hostage to people or circumstances, but rather accepting what is and moving accordingly. Sometimes you have to remind yourself to keep going, to shake off what no longer serves you, and step into something greater.”
“Move” by Tiara Thomas and H.E.R continues Thomas’s run throughout 2025, which has included two singles — “Kiss Me” and “A Hug.” Meanwhile, H.E.R. has been making her presence felt in the City of Dreams. Brooklyn’s own Miles Caton has credited H.E.R. as the voice in his ear telling him to audition for Sinners. Mobb Deep will feature the Bay Area native on the forthcoming album, Infinite, and she popped up at Planet Brooklyn just last month.
