T.I is making his return to film for a team-up with ‘Straight out of Brooklyn’ director Matty Rich titled ‘Caller 100’. This will be the first film Rich has directed in over 25 years.
T.I. will star in the project, while Rich, the wunderkind filmmaker of early 1990s black-centric movies such as Straight Out of Brooklyn, will helm, marking a return to features after a 25-year sabbatical. Rich wrote the popcorn story, which centers on a popular radio personality whose chance encounter with a female listener turns his life upside down. Caller 100 has been described as a relationship thriller in the vein of Play Misty for Me, the 1971 thriller starring and directed by Clint Eastwood which told of a radio DJ stalked by an obsessive fan.
Rich is well known for one of his two films ‘Straight out of Brooklyn’, which he made by maxing out his credit cards and spending over $450,000. It movie ended up paying off because it became one of the most sensational movies of the year, even winning the special jury prize at Sundance and later the Indie Spirit Award for best first feature.
T.I on the other hand has made himself some-what of a name in Hollywood, getting a frequent role in the ‘Ant-Man’ series and featuring in the thriller ‘Takers’.
